Testing

As of January 1, 2020, the American Architectural Manufactures Alliance and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) unified to form the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA). AAMA standards remain the defining specification for high performance coating.

Verta’s finishes meet the rigorous testing standards established by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) 2605, Voluntary Specification, Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for Superior Performing Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels. The AAMA 2605 high performance specification is the highest standard available for organic coatings on architectural aluminum extrusions and panels and is reserved for products that offer superior performance. More information is available on the AAMA website.

Quality Control/Quality Assurance

Our thorough in-house quality program ensures consistent results for every job.  We inspect every part to ensure coverage is completed per drawings and specifications and coatings are free of visible flow lines, streaks, and surface imperfections per FGIA/AAMA 2605.  We also visually inspect each part  for gloss and use a spectrometer to ensure color uniformity.  We test the dry film thickness of multiple parts per batch by using a micrometer to ensure that at least 80% of exposed surfaces meet or exceed manufacturers’ specifications. Typically, mil thickness is 1.2 mil or greater for a two coat and 1.6 – 1.8 mil for a three coat finish. Note there is no performance difference between two and three coat finishes. Some colors require a third coat to achieve color consistency.   We also process a control panel with each project and perform dry film thickness, pencil hardness, solvent rub, dry adhesion/tape-off and boil adhesion tests per FGIA/AAMA 2605.
